At age 15, John* has already seen a lifetime’s worth of hardship. John’s father is a methamphetamine addict who abused his family and then took off, leaving them homeless. Before this summer, John had never been more than 20 miles outside of Spokane.
In August, Peak7 initiated our Ascent Program. Four young men spent five days backpacking in the spectacular wilderness of the Cascades. Each day began with a Bible study and was punctuated with lessons from God’s creation. Daily, each person was encouraged to find a place of solitude to meet face-to-face with their Creator.
The wilderness is a powerful place to meet God. Each person in the group experienced God in new ways as they saw Him through creation, had to rely on His strength to overcome fear and hardship, and daily had to decide where to put their ultimate trust.
John’s wilderness encounter with the Father’s love was brought about through a partnership between Peak7 and Youth for Christ, and was made possible through generous contributions from sponsors.
